This class is given upon request to groups of all ages. It varies in content from a course on "what to do if bones are found" to "how to identify bones in the field". The basic goals of the class are: 1) to give students an understanding of the laws that protect ancient burials and an idea of what to do when human bones are discovered unexpectedly; 2) to help students see the differences in animal and human bones and give them the tools to properly record bones in the field.

On the Umatilla Reservation, Jeff Van Pelt and Julie Longenecker give bone identification training to cultural resource technicians.
Julie demonstrates how the femur (upper leg bone) is oriented in the body.

Julie and Jeff show the difference between animal and human leg bones.
Field classes take place on simulated burial sites.
Jeff Van Pelt teaches protocol for reporting inadvertent discoveries of human remains to cultural resource project managers at Hanford.
