Mission
The Department of Economic and Community Development promotes the interests of members of the Umatilla Indian Reservation by creating jobs, increasing revenues, and contributing to a diversified and developed economic base, thus creating opportunities for continued advancement of all sectors of the community.

FINAL Environmental Impact Statement

  • 700 acres of Tribal Trust land zoned for business development
  • Market research and pre-development currently underway
 Land Acquisition Program
  • Today the Umatilla Reservation totals 172,882 acres. Of that total, 90,315.54 are trust acres (52%) and in Individual Indian/Tribal ownership, including trust and fee. 48% is owned by non-Indians.
Mission Market
  • The new store has groceries, deli and post office box rental.
    Opened February 6, 2003!
Tribal Environmental Recovery Facility (TERF)
  • Only full-service Tribal transfer station in Northwest
  • Accepts solid waste and recyclables
  • Supported by assistance from USDA Rural Development, Jen-Weld Foundation, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, Housing and Urban Development's Indian Community Development Block Grant Program
Tribal Farm Enterprise

Wánapa Energy Center
  • Development of a 600-1200 megawatt gas-fired power plant on Tribal Trust land near the city of Umatilla (along Columbia River)
  • Development partners include City of Hermiston, Eugene Water and Electrical Board, Port of Umatilla, and Diamond Generating
  • Estimated 30 FTE jobs created
  • Environmental permitting underway
  • Construction schedule pending
